Welcome to the FPL edition of the 38-0 game!
How to Play: FPL Season Simulator
The FPL Season Simulator uses real data from 10 Premier League seasons to let you draft a squad and play through a full 38-gameweek campaign. You can go solo, invite friends into a room, or fill out the numbers with AI opponents. Here's how it all works.
Setting Up
If you're in a room, the host picks how many transfer windows the season will have: none, one, or two. This applies to everyone in the room so that results stay comparable across players. Once that's settled, everyone moves on to choosing a formation.
Formation
Pick a formation like 4-3-3 or 3-5-2. This decides how many defenders, midfielders and forwards you'll need in your starting XI, and shapes the whole draft that follows. You can have any formation that FPL allows.
Drafting Your Squad
You'll spin for a club, then pick from the players available at that team, pulled from across 10 different historical seasons. Your goal is 15 players total: an XI plus a four player bench (again, just like FPL) that covers every position you might need.
There's a budget of £105m to work with. £5m more than real life FPL. Keep an eye out for outlined cards in the pool. A purple outline flags a "Legend" season, meaning that player had an super year. Green is rarer still, a "Must-Have" pick. Once your squad is complete, choose a captain from your starting XI. Their points double every week for the rest of the season unless they get sold later on.
Running the Simulation
Gameweeks reveal one at a time, and you'll see your rank shift as the results come in. Some weeks a player has a standout "star week," others bring a "shocker," and, as in FPL, injuries can rule someone out entirely. If you're playing in a room, everyone drafts and simulates on their own schedule, but the big moments (starting the season, moving through a transfer window) are kept in sync using a simple ready check, so one slow player doesn't hold up the whole room forever. The host has the option to start early if needed, and anyone who hasn't finished drafting gets a squad filled in automatically.
Transfer Windows
If your season includes them, each window plays out the same way. One player is forced out of your squad, you pick two more to sell yourself, and then you choose replacements within whatever budget you have left. If your captain happens to be one of the players sold, you'll need to pick a new one before you can carry on.
Rooms, AI Opponents and Hard Mode
A room holds up to five players, human or AI, and shows live standings as each FPL gameweek unfolds. AI opponents come in three difficulties (Easy, Medium and Hard), and they draft differently depending on the setting rather than just scoring differently, so Hard genuinely builds a stronger squad. If you want more of a challenge, Hard Mode hides points per game and total points while you're drafting or picking transfers, leaving only the player's name, team, season and price to go on. The simulation underneath still uses the full real FPL stats, you're just choosing with less information in front of you.
Leaderboards
There are two leaderboards to check at the end of a season. The Room tab shows how you did against whoever else was in your room, and it's the default view. The Global tab is separate and shows how you compare against everyone who has ever played, not just your room.
A Few Tips
Try not to spend your whole budget in the first few picks. A weak bench can hurt if one of your starters gets injured partway through. And in Hard Mode, a club's general reputation and a player's price still tell you something useful even without the numbers on display. If you can remember their results, that's better still, perhaps if you had the player in your FPL team all those years ago.
Common Questions
Can I switch captains partway through the season? Only if they get sold during a transfer window. Otherwise, your original choice sticks for the whole season.
Does unused budget carry any benefit? No, leftover budget just goes unspent. There's no reward for using all of it.
How many players fit in one room? Five total, and that includes any AI opponents you've added.
Are there price changes? No, there are no FPL price changes or anything similar. The prices are fully frozen on the player's end of season price in real life.
Are the AI opponents actually competitive? Yes. Hard AI prioritizes the strongest available players when drafting, while Easy AI drafts more or less at random, so the difficulty setting reflects a real difference in how they play, not just a score adjustment after the fact.
